About this event:
Join us for a lecture-demonstration by Hema Rajagopalan and members of the Natya Dance Theatre Company. Natya Dance Theatre's contemporary style uses dynamic body movement, rhythmic footwork, hand gestures and facial expressions to convey meaning and emotion to create rasa, the aesthetic experience that transforms the audience. This style is rooted in Bharata Natyam, one of the great classical dance forms of India. Natya Dance Theatre founder and director Hema Rajagopalan and members of the Natya Company lead an exploration of this ancient art form, which is rooted in The Natyashastra, a text that is more than 2,000 years old. Be sure to attend their evening length performance scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2008 in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium. For ticket and reservation information call 312-212-1240 or visit their website at www.natya.com.
