Elizabeth (Bessie) Chandler and Albert Hafner were engaged to be married shortly before Albert moved to Chicago for business in 1891. Over the next decade, Albert wrote letters back to Bessie in Florida about his varied experiences in Chicago. The letters describe, among other things, the 1893 World's Fair, farm life in Evanston, cold winters, boarding houses, bicycling and business ventures from cigar sales to real estate. [Finding aid]
