Sarah White, born in poverty in the Mississippi Delta town of Inverness, became a leading organizer of unions for black women working in the catfish processing plants of the region. She was a key figure in the 1990 strike at Delta Pride Catfish, the largest strike in the history of Mississippi. The catfish workers’ struggle became a celebrated cause in Chicago, as civil rights groups, unions and churches sent assistance. White’s papers include extensive oral history interviews, manuscripts, speeches, clipping files, serials and memorabilia. [Partially processed]
