Founded in 1974 by a group of eight theatrical artists, Victory Gardens Theater developed a reputation for artistic achievement and was awarded the 2001 Tony Award for regional theater. The theater focused on world premieres and launched the careers of several successful playwrights and screenwriters. Victory Gardens also developed a reputation for inclusive theater.
