We're living in a new golden age of sci-fi and fantasy. The new Star Trek movies are mainstream blockbusters and Star Wars is celebrated on special days throughout the year. As a sci-fi fan girl who grew up teased for my choices in TV, movies, and books, I am absolutely giddy about so many books coming out.
Holly Black creates an incredible world where mothers steal back their children from fairies and adopt the changelings sent to replace them, children whisper secrets to the enchanted fairy prince who's asleep and incased within a see-through coffin, and monsters lurk in The Darkest Part of the Forest.

The amazing Patrick Ness' newest book, The Rest Of Us Just Live Here, is a love letter to tv shows where the world is constantly on the verge of an apocalypse. However, in this book we see things through the eyes of the regular people, people not destined to save the world, which makes for an interesting twist. For those who might not have heard yet, Ness has also been tapped to write a new Doctor Who spin-off!
Michelle Knudsen's book is on my list, not because of the awesome title Evil Librarian, but because it is the perfect mix of snark, horror, and humor. The new librarian is hot, but he might also be a demon from a different dimension.
Evil Librarian is available in other formats.
The Unwind Dystology by Neal Shusterman is set in a dark future. After the Heartland Wars, medical technology and the government have granted parents the ability to rid themselves of their troublemaker children. Between the ages of 13 to 18 teenagers run the risk of being "unwound," a process where they are kept awake as their entire body is disassembled for donation.
Which sci-fi and fantasy novels are you excited about this year?
