Explore the stories of immigrants and migrants, as told through the Chicago Public Library archives. This series is part of the 2020 One Book, One Chicago season, exploring the theme "Beyond Borders" and the book Exit West by Mohsin Hamid.
This episode features the Forced Migration Photovoice Project.
Refugees and political asylum seekers share their photos and stories about living in Chicago. This photovoice project started in 2013 and is a partnership between Heartland Alliance Marjorie Kovler Center, Heartland Alliance Refugee and Immigrant Community Services, and Sulzer's Northside Neighborhood History. It is funded by the Hoellen Family Foundation through the Chicago Public Library Foundation. Over 40 people from 25 different countries have participated.
We invite you to visit our online exhibit Picturing a New Life in Chicago featuring photos and stories from this project.
