Fall is my favorite time of year - apple orchards, pumpkin patches, hay rides, crisp leaves crunching under my feet and most importantly every October, the National Hockey League starts its season. While I have already made it to a Hawks preseason game, there is nothing like the thrilling action and excitement of going to a regular season game - when the score really matters!
To help get me in the mood for the start of the Hawks season - just in case the banner-raising ceremony and the carryover excitement of last season's Stanley Cup victory isn't enough - I plan on indulging in a quick read of Tales from the Chicago Blackhawks Locker Room - a great collection of short stories and anceotes from players and coaches collected and written by Harvey Wittenberg - a native Chicagoan and sportswriter who has covered the Hawks for over 55 years.
If there is a junior Hawks fan in your life, you might want to check out these titles which are great for the younger fans: Chicago Blackhawks and The Chicago Blackhawks. These books will be sure to get kids pumped up for the upcoming Hawks season and refresh their memory about their favorite hockey team and favorite players.
It's time to grab a pumpkin-spiced latte, flip the Hawks game on and welcome the start of a new season of Blackhawks hockey!
