It's almost time to ponder the mysteries of curling and the difference between a triple toe loop and a triple salchow. The Winter Olympics in Sochi begin February 7, and I will be glued to my flatscreen to catch every possible moment of hockey, figure skating, luge and bobsled.
Of the memorable moments in recent Winter Olympics history, my husband would divorce me if I didn't first mention the 1980 U.S. hockey team's inspiring win in Lake Placid. Read all about "The Miracle on Ice" in The Boys of Winter or watch Miracle starring Kurt Russell.
During my high school years, no story grabbed more headlines than the Tonya Harding scandal during the 1994 games in Lillehammer. I'm sure Nancy Kerrigan would prefer to never again rehash the incident where one of Harding's goons clubbed her in the knee, but you can grab all of her skating tips in Artistry on Ice.
Obviously I'm partial to anything involving skates, but I could never muster any interest in speed skating until a handsome devil named Apolo Anton Ohno sprinted onto the scene. The Dancing with the Stars champion tells his story in Zero Regrets.
So don't bother me next month. I'll be practicing my Bielmann spin in front of the TV.
