For this Throwback Thursday, we're celebrating the iPod, which was introduced 15 years ago on October 23, 2001. The device began a revolution in how we listen to and, ultimately, how we buy music. In fact, the iPod set the stage for how we use devices now. And it was the beginning of everyone having earbuds in their ears!
I wasn't able to buy one at first because they were so expensive for me, but when I finally had enough money, I opted for a cute purple iPod Mini. It was a long way from The Walkman I had when I was younger.
I had playlists for working out, for feeling jazzy and for feeling nostalgic with music from the 1980s and 1990s. And I had one that played hits of the early 2000s:
"Hey Ya!" from Speakerboxxx/The Love Below by Outkast.
Hear this song instantly on hoopla.
"Crazy in Love," the lead single on Beyonce's debut, Dangerously in Love, which also featured Jay-Z.
"Hollaback Girl" from Gwen Stefani's debut, Love, Angel, Music, Baby.
Love, Angel, Music, Baby is instantly available on hoopla.
"Where Is the Love?" on Elephunk by the Black Eyed Peas.
"Simple Man," Shinedown's cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, which you can hear on Somewhere in the Stratosphere.
And, of course, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" from Get Born by Jet. That song even made it to an iPod commercial.
To celebrate this anniversary, I'm gonna bust out my old iPod, charge it up, hit shuffle and jam out! But, enough about me… What do you remember listening to on your first iPod (or similar device if you had another brand)?
