London is my absolute favorite world city. No matter how many times I visit, I feel like I've not even scratched the surface of discovering all the city's secrets. But, plane tickets are expensive, so I can't go as often as I'd like. When I can't be there in person, I read about London and its fascinating history instead. More specifically, I like to read about how the average person lived. What did they eat? What did they wear? How did they decorate their homes? How did they experience birth and death? Luckily for me, and now you, there are plenty of books out there that answer exactly these questions and many more.
Here are a few of my favorite historical London reads.
The Time Traveler's Guide to Medieval England
The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England
What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew
Call the Midwife: This book, and its sequels, has also been made into a wonderful TV series, Call the Midwife.
