Being queer is beautiful, but it isn’t always easy. Shaun David Hutchinson was confused, lost and lonely. His memoir Brave Face is honest and sometimes heartbreaking, but endlessly relatable as he works to overcome the negative messages of society and his own mental health.
Maia Kobabe (who uses e/em/eir pronouns) started Gender Queer, eir graphic novel as a way to explain to loved ones who e was. What it became was a touching, beautiful auto-biography about everything from the awkwardness of adolescence to the power of gay fan fiction.
