Biographical Note

Dorothy Rogers Livingston was born on June 8, 1917 in Chicago. After receiving her B.A. degree from George Williams College, she began her career in the Chicago Park District. In 1941, Dorothy was the program coordinator for the Chicago Park District and collected play scripts and community programming resources from Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) plays presented in the parks.

In 1948, Dorothy married Leonard Livingston, President of Jackson Mutual Life Company. From 1942 through 1950, Dorothy was program director for Parkway Community House, the innovative settlement house led by Horace Cayton. She also earned a Masters in Social Work from University of Illinois in 1952. Dorothy Rogers Livingston died at the age of 81 on October 3, 1998.

Scope and Content

This small collection consists of 5 scripts and 2 books regarding puppetry and theater programs at the Chicago Park District during the Federal Theater Project led by the W.P.A. Please note that as historical objects, some of these materials contain harmful or disturbing content.
