How do I reserve a music practice room?

Music practice rooms at Harold Washington Library Center can be reserved one week in advance. Reserve online, in person or by calling the Arts & Music Reference Desk at 312-747-4800.

Walk-ins are also welcome if the room is not already reserved. If all rooms are in use, you may be placed on a waiting list for the next available room.

When making reservations, please be prepared to provide a contact name, phone number, email address, the name (if any) of the ensemble, group, organization and the number of people expected.

You'll need to show a current photo ID matching the name on the reservation when you check in to use the music practice room. ID before using a music practice room. Accepted forms of ID include:

  • Library card
  • Work ID
  • Driver’s license
  • State ID
  • School ID
  • Active military ID
  • Passport

Music practice rooms at Harold Washington Library Center:

  • A chamber rehearsal room
    • The Chamber Room contains a baby grand piano, music stands, and chairs. The purpose of the Chamber Room is to be a rehearsal area for small acoustic or vocal music ensembles of from 3 to 10 people.
  • Six practice rooms with pianos
    • Each room contains an upright piano, music stand, and coat rack. The purpose of these Rooms is to allow library patrons to practice or perform music.

The Uptown library has:

  • One study room that has sound dampening and can be used as a music practice room or for recording podcasts and music demos.
