Sulzer Regional Library hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit through the month of May featuring artist JeeYeun Lee.
JeeYeun Lee was born in Tokyo, Japan. As a child, she lived in several countries and then immigrated with her family to Chicago in 1980. She received a bachelors degree in linguistics at Stanford University and a masters degree in Ethnic Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. After working for twenty years in non-profit organizations fighting for immigrant rights, Korean American and Asian American communities, and social and economic justice, she recently started pursuing art full-time. In her artwork, she uses found objects and traditional Korean materials to explore themes of language, labor, and connectedness. She uses techniques of improvisation, repetition and handwork, and incorporates joy and humor whenever possible.
