Beverly Branch hosts a Polish American Heritage Month art exhibit in October featuring artist Kasia Szczesniewski.
Szczesniewski was born in 1961 in Legnica, Poland. During her youth, Szczesniewski had the opportunity to see many beautiful examples of European architecture, sculptures and paintings, which strongly influenced her way of looking at art.
Artist Statement
Most often my inspiration comes from nature, not only as seen through my eyes, but as it is transformed by my feelings, beliefs and thoughts. Ideas about constant change and the delicate balance of the elements of our world are very dear to me. One of my artistic goals is to create works that are interesting even under a magnifying glass. This is why I have been concentrating on textures a lot lately.
In the Polish Heritage Month exhibition I would want to present some of my works from the project “White Gardens.” In this project I utilized rice paper’s semi-transparent properties to build shades of white. The paper’s strong fibers enabled me to create deep and complex textures. I completed the compositions with black and white acrylic paints. The project shows my exploration of a technique I discovered and the possibilities it opens. For me, these works unite a poetic vision of winter landscapes with the sensuality of paper.
