Chicago Lawn Branch hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit through the month of May featuring artist Kathyrn Scott.
Kathyrn is a landscape and street photographer. The beauty of everyday people and the world that surrounds us inspires her. She is particularly interested in capturing positive images of people of color and those who live on the periphery of the mainstream visual panorama. She hopes to make visible, those who are ignored, unseen, or categorized by clichéd images that undermine and dilute the fullness of their humanity.
Ever since the election, she has been particularly interested in capturing images of community common to us all and believes these portraits of Asian American and Pacific Islander people on the streets of Chicago are an integral part of the beautiful diversity of the city, each person with their own rich family and cultural history.
Her hope is to portray a small portion of the culture that lives in and enriches our city, and honor the belief that we are all ultimately bound as one human family.
