Brighton Park Branch hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit during May 2018 featuring artist Xing Tan.
Xing Tan presents her paintings in the traditional style, with acrylic, watercolor, and ink. These paintings are dedicated to the beauty of nature, as well as capturing her memories. These views remind her of childhood when she sees the familiar landscape and architecture while traveling. In these works, she intends to express her emotions and feelings through the brush flowing on the 2D surface. Overall, they draw out her expression in the moment, not only describing the beauty of nature, but also providing the concept of her traditional environment where she grew up. Her work represents her personal feelings that nature and tradition may be lost if we don't care and protect it, and through it she hopes to introduce the audience to the importance of its appreciation.
