Harold Washington Library Center will show works by artist Debra Pappan on the 3rd floor from November 1 through December 30 as part of Native American Heritage Month.
Debra Yepa-Pappan is a Korean and Jemez Pueblo artist who utilizes digital imagery to visually share her story about being mixed race. Her works examine issues of Indian stereotypes and also offer an in-depth examination of her own identity, conveying her pride in both her cultures. Her works have been exhibited around the country and in other parts of the world, and published in a number of magazines and the book War Baby/Love Child: Mixed Race Asian American Art. She is an alumna of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Yepa-Pappan resides in her hometown of Chicago with her husband, artist Chris Pappan, and their 13-year-old daughter, an aspiring ballet dancer.
