Chicago Public Library Hosts Third Annual Gamer’s Universe: a Teen-Led Gaming Extravaganza for All

The day-long gaming convention welcomes all Chicagoans and visitors to attend Gamer’s Universe on June 22 at Harold Washington Library Center.

For the third consecutive year, Chicago Public Library's Harold Washington Library Center will transform into a vibrant gaming convention for Gamer's Universe on Saturday, June 22, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm. This all-ages event uplifts gaming in all its forms, offering something for everyone. Organized by the Chicago Public Library in collaboration with the Chicago Teen Gamer's Guild (CTGG)—a dedicated group of local teens committed to fostering inclusive gaming experiences across the city—this year's convention promises to be bigger, better and one of the best free gaming extravaganzas in the city.

“At Chicago Public Library, we've created a destination for our city's youth, where programs are not just designed for them but by them,” said Commissioner Chris Brown. “Take Gamer's Universe, for instance – this event caters to gamers of all ages and preferences, brought to life through collaboration with the Chicago Teen Gamer's Guild. Comprising local teens, the Guild is dedicated to crafting gaming experiences that welcome everyone. Gamer's Universe is an absolute must for any youth gamer in Chicago.”

Teens' leadership infuses this convention with a vibrant, laser-focused, and dynamic energy, revitalizing the gaming community. Leveraging their intuitive grasp of modern gaming culture and technology, these young organizers have meticulously crafted an event that resonates with audiences of all generations.

Planning Gamer’s Universe has been a learning process, but a great experience, especially when working with other students,” said Isabella S., 16, Gamer’s Planning Intern. “We have worked hard to create fun workshops and panels and uniquely decorate our space, so everyone feels welcomed. Being able to create a community where gamers of all kinds can come together is what makes everything worth it!”

Participants at the Gamer's Universe convention can look forward to a jam-packed day of activities. They will have the chance to explore exclusive new board games, engage in competitive gaming tournaments featuring popular titles like Mario Kart, and interact with fellow cosplayers or even compete in a cosplay contest. These are just a few of the exciting opportunities that await at the convention.

This event is made possible by generous donors to the Chicago Public Library Foundation. For more information and to secure a reservation visit: chipublib.org/gamersuniverse. You can find the Gamer’s Universe press kit here.
