Listen up! ChiTeen Records, the music label exclusively featuring teen artists from across Chicago, dropped May 13. It’s entitled – you guessed it – The Mixtape. You can listen to the release for free on the YOUmediaChicago SoundCloud page and other streaming services.
The Mixtape spans various genres from hip-hop to indie rock as well as some amazing fusions of style and instrumentation led by teen Co-Producer, GRVINZ; teen Studio Musician JayTheGuitarist; and Visiting Music Studio Mentor, Hakim Dough. Each track on The Mixtape is an original, teen-created composition; most of the recording and mixing was done in the YOUmedia studio at Harold Washington Library.
In addition to showcasing music recorded in the YOUmedia studio, The Mixtape also features spoken word poetry, spontaneous jam sessions and other aural snippets of the YOUmedia experience interspersed throughout the release. Amazing artwork by teen Lead Visual Artist, Diego and photos and behind-the-scenes video footage from Lead Photographer, Kim will accompany the release.
ChiTeen Records and The Mixtape are a culmination of a 8-month project in YOUmedia at Harold Washington Library, largely made possible by the Illinois State Library’s Project Next Generation grant.
