If you missed our May 24 panel discussion titled "The Rise of Asia?" at the Edgewater Branch, then you've got another chance! The conversation featured political scientists William Hurst (Northwestern University) and John Mearsheimer (University of Chicago).
Throughout the discussion, Mearsheimer argued that any nation-state's rise to global hegemony is a violent process and that China's predicted rise, should it occur, will be no exception. Hurst argued that a number of internal and external constraints will likely prevent China from surpassing the United States in global wealth and power.
A lively question-and-answer dialogue with the audience followed their presentations.
The event will be on CAN-TV (Channel 21) at 12 p.m. Friday, June 27.
