Evicted: A Closer Look at America's Housing Struggles and Crisis is open on the 5th floor of the Harold Washington Library Center through June 15, 2025.
About Evicted
In April 2018, the National Building Museum launched an exhibition based on Matthew Desmond's book Evicted, highlighting the causes and effects of eviction in America. Over 2.3 million Americans, primarily low-income renters, face eviction each year, exacerbating issues like poverty and inequality. The exhibition, now touring Illinois through a partnership with the Supportive Housing Providers Association and the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness, emphasizes how housing instability disrupts families' lives -- impacting health, jobs, education, and relationships. Through infographics and tenant testimonials, the exhibition aims to raise awareness about the housing crisis and its far-reaching consequences.
