Explore and Invent with Curiosity Machine at Greater Grand Crossing Branch

This fall Greater Grand Crossing Branch will host a five-week program with Curiosity Machine, an online learning platform that equips and inspires children to create their own inventions with the support of science and engineering professionals.

At each two-hour weekly program, participating children and families will attempt an engineering challenge based on actual and innovative science and engineering work.  We will send pictures of the projects to a science mentor, who will give each child individual feedback about how to improve their design. The next week, we will revamp our old designs and try an additional related challenge.

Challenges are doable with simple, low-cost materials that can be obtained at a grocery store. They are open-ended and easy to start, but also encourage everyone to keep building, to develop more complex designs and solutions; and they emphasize that science is a creative process – not just a collection of right or wrong facts.

Our Curiosity Machine program runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays from September 11 to October 9.  Families and individual children ages 7 and up are welcome.  However, as each child must create an online account at Curiosity Machine, a permission slip is required for each child.  Please pick up the permission slip at the Children's Desk prior to the first program.
