Blackstone Branch is hosting an exhibition by Haitian artist Jean Yves Hector. The 20-year-old artist, who hails from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has been visiting the United States since August at the invitation of the Haitian American Museum of Chicago. The 12 paintings, all acrylic on canvas, are on display until March 7 in the adult reading room at Blackstone Branch.
We'll host an opening reception for the artist from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 23.
Hector's work is also on exhibit at the Haitian American Museum of Chicago until Sunday, January 24.
Artist Statement
"I don't want to sell paintings. I just want to show the world what I'm feeling. The purpose of my art is to express something."
