This summer Issa, the Teen Library Associate who works in Chicago Public Library's Hall Branch YOUmedia, wanted to work on a community garden with teens.
Hall Branch Library already has a lovely landscaped front and back yard, but Issa's hope was to help promote relaxation and improve mental health though physical activity and connecting teens with the environment. In addition to planting flowers, the teens have planted basil and cucumber seeds.
Issa and community teens are also hoping to research fresh produce and food security, balanced diets, healthy eating habits and professional horticulture alongside the partner organization South Side Roots.
Find out more about how you can get involved in Hall Branch's Community Garden events by stopping by or contacting the library today.
Hall Branch is a recipient of a 2018 Teen Summer Challenge: Imagine Doing More! mini-grant made possible through the Chicago Public Library Foundation. All of the soil for their project was donated generously by E-Z Tree Recycling with a donated/rented pick up truck from Home Depot. #ImagineAtCPL #CPLTeens #NoSmallPlans
