See what a theater for people with and without physical and mental disabilities, an organization aimed at helping homeless and underserved communities through art, and an Eastern European folk music tambura band have in common at Chicago Voices' Stories and Songs of Chicago on Saturday, September 24 at Harris Theater in Millennium Park. This spring, three groups won the opportunity to work with Lyric Opera to create an original musical theater performance, to be shared at Stories and Songs of Chicago. After passing a rigorous application process and winning a popular vote, these groups—Tellin' Tales Theatre, Harmony, Hope & Healing and the Kirin-Gornick Band—began a 16-week process of working with professional songwriters, choreographers and production managers to create three world-premiere pieces that share their stories with the world.
Chicago Public Library joins Lyric Opera as a partner in the Chicago Voices initiative.
