Harold Washington Library Center hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit in May featuring artist Susie X, InsomniaBird.
About the Artist
Born in Chengdu, China, Susie immigrated to the United States at age 4 to join her parents in Bridgeport, Chicago. After teaching public school art for four years, she took on the name InsomniaBird, and began creating out of her apartment. Drawing from her education background, she believes the visual arts are a form of everyday expression and should be accessible to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Her artwork uses acrylic and ink to feature recurring motifs of large-eyed birds. InsomniaBird’s pieces are influenced by street art, surrealism, East Asian and tea culture, and Japanese kawaii, or cute, style.
