Around Us: Paintings by JeongIm Herbert is on display through August 18 in the 8th floor exhibit cases at Harold Washington Library Center.
Rapidly changing contemporary life brought us the rise of individuality, vast resources of information and an environment filled with images. In this social climate, we are forced to move fast and consume culture instantly. Through her sublime photorealistic oil paintings, JeongIm Herbert invites us to slow down and truly see the objects represented. Contemplating them, we find space to unfold and reflect on our own stories.
A Chicago-based artist, Herbert was born in Seoul, South Korea. She holds master of fine arts degrees in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute and Hongik University, and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. This is her first solo exhibition in Chicago.
