Music in Chicago is on display through July 8 in Harold Washington Library Center's Congress Corridor, Ground Floor.
This year's One Book, One Chicago, I'll Take You There by Greg Kot, tells the story of the Staple Singers. The group developed its distinctive blend of gospel and pop in Chicago's rich musical tradition, which runs the gamut from classical and opera to blues and jazz to rap and house and everything in between. Chicago has been home to world famous musicians and everyday people creating music in their local communities. These photographs capture some of this history as represented in Chicago Public Library's Special Collections.
