Chicago Public Library is excited to host a musical story time series featuring D-Composed and Mama Edie Armstrong. This special collaboration will combine live chamber music and storytelling to celebrate Black stories and composers as we witness the power of storytelling in music.
D-Composed is a Black chamber music collective based in Chicago. From D-Composed's website:
Led by their mission to uplift and empower society through the power of Black composers, this Chicago-based creative incubator acts as a bridge between the past and present to the future of representation, music-centered experiences, and the communal power of Black composers and their impact.
Each story time event will feature a reading of the New York Times Bestselling book Hair Love by Chicago's own Matthew Cherry. The string trio will perform an original composition by Ahmed Alabaca with English/Spanish narration by Mama Edie Armstrong. Mama Edie is a familiar favorite performer at CPL whose bilingual storytelling guides audiences of all ages on a journey to find peace, power and joy within themselves through folktales, histories and stories.
