Musicians in Black and White: Paintings by Marcus Sterling Alleyne is on display January 27 through March 18 at Harold Washington Library Center in the 8th floor exhibit cases.
The paintings were inspired by jazz and blues legends, including pioneering musicians and vocalists of Chicago, and were created by Marcus Sterling Alleyne during live performances at the Universal Alley Jazz Jam on the South Side of Chicago.
The artist states, "This series captures the bare essence of harmony, when two or more musicians come together to create a song, similar to an artist blending colors to create harmony within a two-dimensional image."
Alleyne has also illustrated a children's book, The World Is Yours!, written by BenHaMeen. Come to a Book Reading with the Author & Illustrator at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4 in the Chicago Authors Room on the 7th floor of Harold Washington Library Center.
Alleyne will give an Artist Talk about his exhibit at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18 in the Chicago Authors Room on the 7th floor of Harold Washington Library Center.
