November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), and the teens at YOUmedia are writing furiously every day.
The goal of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words in just one month. That's 1,667 words a day, which is about three to four pages single spaced. It's a grueling undertaking, but the teens are going strong.
The variety of stories is pretty impressive. YOUmedia regular Violet is tackling a choose-your-own-adventure novel about video games; it's titled Lord Odin Wafflestack III of Buttercreamshire's RPG.
Last year's YOUmedia NaNo champion, John, is writing a novel called The Autumn the God Fell, which, in John's own words is about,
"... a boy named Leaf who is constantly being pulled between opposing the gods and fearing them. He is pulled between these two options by his friends Anika and Munin, who are on opposite sides of the spectrum. It deals a lot with identity issues, gender identity and whether people should or have to stand on certain issues."
If you are a teen writer looking for some inspiration and help through those last 10,000 words, come give us a visit any day after school for pep talks, write-ins and more.
