Have you been enjoying this year’s One Book, One Chicago programming so far? The season is only half over, and there are many more opportunities coming this winter and spring to explore our theme of "Chicago: The City That Gives" with this year’s selection, Thomas Dyja's The Third Coast.
We’ve announced many great programs and events for 2016, including:
- Mainstage events including: Robert Marovich, author of A City Called Heaven; a film screening and discussion of Hairy Who & The Chicago Imagists; Operatic Book Club with Opera on Tap; skateboard legend and philanthropist Tony Hawk; a night of Chicago Noir with Joe Meno, editor of the new anthology Chicago Noir; Jessica Jackley, co-founder of Kiva and author of Clay, Water, Brick.
- Maker Lab programs in our "Really Tiny House" architecture and design series, culminating in a Really Tiny Block Party and Really Tiny House Competition in April.
- Programs in neighborhood branches including 20 Moments: Chicago in the 20th Century; Chicago's Public Art: Out of the Past, Into the Future; film screenings of In The Game; Old Town School of Folk Music presents Music of Chicago concerts; financial education workshops Giving and Donating: Being Smart with Your Support; Art Institute of Chicago presents Visible Histories programs in neighborhood branches followed by gallery walks at the museum; Protest Poetry workshops; Goodcity workshops So You Want To Start A Non-Profit and Grantwriting 101
- a partner program with The Pritzker Military Museum and Library on Veterans Giving Back
- partner programs with DePaul University Chicago on Making in Chicago and Literary Citizenship and the Power of Collaborative Storytelling
- Walking tours in many neighborhoods from urbanologist Max Grinnell
- art exhibits including Straight into the Camera: David Gremp's Chicago 1978-1979 and Really Tiny Houses
