Protest banners are available for check out as part of our City of Stories summer programming and in partnership with the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and Aram Han Sifuentes of the Protest Banner Lending Library. Visit YOUmedia on the 1st floor of the Harold Washington Library Center to check out a banner.
Sifuentes started the Protest Banner Lending Library in Chicago on November 8, 2016, the day after the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, and continues to teach people how to make their own protest banner. More than 3,000 banners have been made in workshops, and there are Protest Banner Lending Libraries in cities across the U.S. as well as internationally that house more than 600 banners. It is an active ongoing project where banners are constantly circulating, being checked out, used and returned.
