Calling all kids, birth to 5, to explore the outer limits of space at your neighborhood library from June 8 through September 1 as we launch Rahm's Little Readers Summer Learning Challenge!
This free, drop-in program is for kids 5 and under. During the Summer Learning Challenge, CPL locations will offer new books about outer space and space travel, hundreds of family programs, art projects, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities and many more ways for kids to keep their brains active.
Start today by picking up a special early literacy log at any CPL location. Then complete the challenge:
- TALK: Talk with your child all day long; visit the Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium or another museum and talk about what you see.
- SING: Gaze at the stars and sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," listen to music while you do activities with your child.
- READ: 20 minutes a day, every day. Read 500 minutes to reach the goal. Books, magazines, eBooks, audiobooks — all reading counts!
- WRITE: Draw and color stars with your child, have your child practice writing their name.
- PLAY: Build a spaceship with blocks, pretend to travel to the moon
- ACHIEVE: Read for 500 minutes and complete any two Talk, Sing, Write or Play activity to earn a glow-in-the-dark book bag!
- Then keep talking, singing, reading, writing and playing to be entered into a raffle for an eReader.
Explore More! from August 1 to September 1: Read 20 minutes a day and complete five activities to receive a prize.
All children are eligible to win free books and passes to the Brookfield Zoo through weekly raffles. Parents and caregivers can enter a tech package raffle by reflecting on the learning they do with their children.
Have an out-of-this-world summer with Explore and Soar!
Talk, Sing, Read, Write and Play skills are recommended through Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library®, a program of the Association for Library Service to Children and Public Library Association, divisions of the American Library Association.
