For the past three years the Blackstone Branch has sponsored a Taste of the Nutcracker featuring the Hyde Park School of Dance. This year's performance is at 10:15 a.m. December 7 at the branch.
This free 45-minute sampling of the great ballet by Tchaikovsky is a wonderful way to introduce this holiday classic to those who may not have seen it before. At the end of the ballet, children are invited to join the performers for a final dance.
Founded in 1993, the Hyde Park School of Dance provides opportunities for students of any age to learn different types of classical and comtemporary dances. See the full ballet December 14 and 15 at University of Chicago's Mandel Hall.
