“Brother Mike” Hawkins helped create Chicago Public Library’s
YOUmedia at the Harold Washington Library Center.
He was loved and appreciated by hundreds.
One thing that Brother Mike did that I think was so important is
he acknowledged me in a way that felt important.
He had a kind smile, made eye contact and often times offered a hug.
A talented photographer, videographer and poet,
Brother Mike always had something positive to share,
providing inspiration and encouragement
as if he had all the time in the world.
I made this illustration of Brother Mike from a photo in his Chicago Tribune obituary.
Brother Mike had a huge heart and will never be forgotten.
