Teens, as part of Elevate Your Voice, we’re asking you to give a shout out to your hero and to share an original art piece, video, photo or recording inspired by your hero. Your submissions could be featured on the CPL website.
When 16-year-old Diamond of South Chicago Branch was asked about her hero, she responded, "Who's my hero? This might sound crazy, but my hero is a fictional character. His name is Captain America."
Diamond explained, "some people might think that he's my hero because he is a superhero, but he's my hero because despite the challenges that he's been through, he still dedicates his life to helping people besides himself. I mean, of course he takes care of himself, but he's selfless. Captain America impacted my life by making me selfless. I no longer look after my needs only. I help others, and it makes me happy."
