spotlight a teen at CPL.
Each month weArdama spends a lot of his time at Lozano YOUmedia where he expresses himself through music and leading others. We recently talked to him about his experience. Hear what he had to say!
Q: What's your favorite program at the library? What do you like about it?
A: Music. It’s the feel of it that I find interesting, starting from the pure emotion put into a song, to hearing the song and surprising myself asking “Did I create that?” I have a great mentor who gives me access to the latest technology so that I can experiment with new, sophisticated tools. Because of my enthusiasm, I have been assigned project leader in music workshops where I get to shape the program and work with many of my friends and peers. I feel welcomed and motivated to refine my skills. I also get to lead board game campaigns. I feel like my potential is believed in and that I have grown from this experience.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I play piano, guitar, drums and I sign. I also love taking photos with a DSLR.
Q: What's your favorite book and genre?
A: My favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and my favorite genre is action and suspense.
Q: How has the library been a part of your life? What do you like to do there?
A: I have been a part of YOUmedia for four years. I like to help with workshops and lead certain workshops. It is a safe space that gives me access to programs and technology not available in my school. The mentor and the branch manager are like family to me and my mother. Many of my peers feel the same way. Every time I visit the library, I go to YOUmedia first to check-in with Ms. Vivian on workshops. There is always so much happening that it’s abnormal to be doing nothing when I’m there! And we always talk about future projects that are fun and engaging. I have learned a lot. For example, photography, strategy in game co-op, music, video-making and teamwork concepts through games that I was never exposed to before this program.
Thanks for sharing Ardama! We're glad you keep coming back!
