Jasmin, 16, of South Chicago Branch says her hero is her mother. She explained, "My inspiration is my mom, because every day when she wakes up, she tries to work harder than she did the last day. She makes sure I'm good first before herself. She tries to be the best parent she can." Jasmin added that her mother taught her that there's no limit to reaching her goal, and she should always feel worthy and stick up for herself. She wrote this short, reflective poem entitled "My Mother" about and for her mom.
My Mother is a woman like no other. She gave
me life, nurtured me, taught me, dressed me,
fought for me, held me,
shouted at me, kissed me, but
most importantly loved me unconditionally.
There are not enough words I can say to describe
just how important my mother was to me,
and what a powerful influence she continues to be.
Mother, I Love You.
