Each month we spotlight a teen at CPL.
Stacey is a Teen Summer Challenge intern at Back of the Yards Branch, where she's been showcasing her artistic talents as well as helping others learn new skills all summer long through CPL's One Summer Chicago project in partnership with AfterSchool Matters. If you walk around the teen area of the library and inside the YOUmedia space, you can see evidence of the many creations she's helped her peers create, adding color and creativity to the shelves and walls.
From cows on parade to mini masterpieces and pinatas filled with Skittles, Stacey has been quite busy this summer. She recently helped lead a block printing workshop for her peers, carving images into foam plates used to make mini prints. Pictured here are some sample prints she made as she tested and learned just how much ink she needed to create the ideal image.
Stacey has crossed off many, but not every square on her bingo card as part of the Teen Summer Challenge: We Are Chicago. She's definitely done the "Make/Share Art" activity several times, and she was thrilled to "Build (Her) Network" by adding her supervisors to her resume. And she was just about to cross off "New/Different Library," as she was planning a trip with teen librarian Natalie to visit our newest YOUmedia, at West Loop Branch.
Next week, Stacey will cross off "STEAM Creation" by creating vinyl cutter stickers in a design workshop she's leading with Natalie and teen library associate Luis. Check out all the fun activities at Back of the Yards YOUmedia.
Thanks for all your great work Stacey!
