"Elevated Connections: Threads of Chicago" by Adrienne Thomas, Harold Washington Library's Summer 2024 Maker-in-Residence, is now viewable in a window display at HWLC along State Street near the corner of State Street and Ida B. Wells Drive. Adrienne's stunning tapestry depicts an iconic scene of the 'L' emerging from the backdrop of a beautiful sunset as it carries Chicagoans and visitors alike to their destinations. The piece highlights a few different stops along the route to reflect the variety of neighborhoods the 'L' traverses as a parallel to the wide range of experiences and interests that draw the public to CPL.
"Elevated Connections: Threads of Chicago" is the culmination of Adrienne's time as the HWLC Maker-in-Residence during which Adrienne constructed the piece on HWLC's third floor and led several workshops focused on sewing and sustainable fashion design in the Maker Lab. As part of her residency, Adrienne also created a video tutorial on the step-by-step process of raw-edge applique, the same process she used to create the exhibited piece. The video tutorial can be found on the Maker Lab YouTube channel.
Check out Adrienne's website for more information about the project and her time as the Maker-in-Residence.
