Last weekend was the Fort Wayne Maker Faire. Maker Faires, sponsored by Make Magazine and local organizations, are held around the globe. Maker Faire is an event where makers get together and share their toys, work and hobbies with the public. These Flickr photos offer a fantastic view into some of the things you might see at one. (Note: When driving from Chicago to Fort Wayne, be aware of the time zone change from Central to Eastern — you will lose an hour!)
Imaginative metal sculptures graced the entrance. 3D printers, creative uses for LEDs, make stations and a jet engine made for a colorful and noisy atmosphere. You could also learn to solder or weld! The TekVenture Maker Station, a collaboration with Allen County Public Library, was on site.
The New York World Maker Faire is this weekend, so if you happen to be on the East Coast, you’re in for treat. If you’re looking for something closer to home, try Learnapalooza Chicago this Sunday in Logan Square. Click on Classes at the top to see what they have to offer. All events are a free opportunity to try something new. While you’re there, say hi to our friends at FreeGeek Chicago and learn how to build a computer!
