Teens, come learn about all things architecture at the Harold Washington Library Center's YOUmedia! You can participate in two special programs in celebration of the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial. The first is an Eco Boat Cruise on the Chicago River on Tuesday, October 8. During this free 70-minute cruise teens will explore and discuss the future of architecture and the environment in Chicago while enjoying the marvelous architectural sites along the river.
The cruise serves as a fun and educational lead-up event to the featured workshop, A City Runs Through It which will take place at the beautiful SAIC Ballroom on Tuesday, October 29. This workshop will bring YOUmedia teens together with teens from five other cities to work in collaborative teams to contemplate and design a city that re-balances its architecture and urbanization in direct response to the needs of freshwater and biodiversity. With support from professionals as mentors, students will think about Chicago as the City of clean air, water, energy, and food. Students will role play and discuss design strategies for a city that increases the health of prosperity of biodiversity (people, plants and animals).
Teens are encouraged to visit YOUmedia at Harold Washington Library to register for both events.
The Eco Boat Cruise and A City Runs Through It are exciting opportunities for teens made possible by the Chicago Architecture Biennial and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
This program is open to teens in high school.
