Blackstone Branch hosted a writing workshop for children given by Hyde Park author Kate Hannigan on June 25 and July 3. In this two part workshop, Kate discussed the mechanics of writing and read the opening lines of books by various authors. The children learned about formulating ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence structure and other components it takes to write a good story.
The second part of the workshop focused on stories that kids created and then shared with each other. Several young writers presented their stories, including Adrija, author and illustrator of Mad Scientists, and McKenzie, author of Birthday AdventuROAR! The children also shared some of their favorite books. Later, Kate raffled off a copy of her book Cupcake Cousins, which was published this past spring.
